From 28th December, 1916 until 2nd January, 1917 the 17th London battalion of 141 Brigade, 47th Division were in the Canal sector of the front line at Ypres. The battalion diary does not go into much detail regarding their stay here but the normal course of trench warfare meant that there were casualties every day, one of whom was George Cole who died from wounds on 1st January, 1917. |
